Hollywood star John Travolta, who is all set to share screen space with troubled actress Lindsay Lohan in the biopic of mafia boss John Gotti.

Jackky Bhagnani is still in (his words) "60 percent disbelief 40 percent ecstasy" about the surprise success of his home production. But the celebrations would have to be quickly taken care of. Jackky now goes immediately into rigorous training to play a gritty real-life cop in Roshan Andrews' Mumbai Police. The trick for Jackky is double-fold. He not only has to jump from playing a goofy college flunkey in F.A.L.T.U to a hardened no- nonsense law enforcer, he also has to ensure that his portrayal of a cop is different from what a gallery of superstars in Bollywood are playing after Salman Khan in Dabangg. For those who came in late, Abhishek Bachchan plays a cop in Dum Maaro Dum followed by John Abraham in Force, Ajay Devgn in the Hindi remake of the Telugu hit Singham and Aamir Khan in Reema Kagti's film. Jackky has gone into serious training with the man who has trained many senior cops in the Mumbai police force. Says the shy actor seriously, "I'm being trained by Elton Menezes who has trained a number of cops including Maharashtra's commissioner of police D. Shivanandan. Luckily, Elton has been my trainer for sometime now. To convince him to train me for my cop's role was not difficult." The film Mumbai Police about two fearless cops which is currently being shot in Malayalam with Prithviraj and Arya in the lead, will bring to Hindi cinema the Malayalam super-director Roshan Andrrews. Producer Vashu Bhagnani who wanted to position his son as a versatile actor after F.A.L.T.U rushed to Kerala to grab the remake rights of Mumbai Police. Says Jackky, "Mumbai Police takes me into a completely different zone from F.A.L.T.U. I'm lucky to be in it. Luckily for me no one can say any more that I'm getting roles just because the producer is my father. The whole journey from a flop actor in my father's film to success is amazing. It's still not sunk in." There's no time to sit back and savour success. Jackky has gone into intense training for the cop's part. Explains Jackky, "The thing is, there's a difference between an army man and a cop. Being a cop is not about measured movements. It's state of mind. I want to play the cop differently from others." Jackky will also be spending time with super-cop Shivanandan. "I just want to observe him and other senior police officers at their work place. I think cops are played in one particular way on our films."
There is no denying the fact that Abhishek Bachchan completely gets into the skin of the character he portrays so much so that you end up leaving the auditorium remembering characters like the spirited Gurukant Desai (Guru), the violent Lallan Singh (Yuva), the fun loving Bunty (Bunty Aur Babli) or the intense Shankar Nagre (Sarkar Raaj). His latest film Dum Maaro Dum sees him portraying the character of a tough cop ACP- Vishnu Kamath who is a Man on a Mission. Sitting relaxed in the club lounge of a suburban hotel, Abhishek Bachchan chats up with Bollywood Hungama's Nikhil Ramsubramaniam on what makes Vishnu Kamath a special character, his friendship with Rohan Sippy, shooting in Goa, his singing escapades and his issues with the media. Toh Ho Jaaye…Thayn Thayn Dishkiyaoon… What was the first thing that attracted you to Dum Maaro Dum? Was it working with your buddy Rohan Sippy or the character of ACP Vishnu Kamath or the chance of partying in Goa? It was ACP Vishnu Kamath and Rohan. Rohan has never asked me to do a film out of friendship. All the three films which I have done with him have been because the script attracted me. It's another thing that he just has to ask me and I'll be there for him, no questions asked. What I really liked about Dum Maaro Dum was Kamath. He is a really cool character to play. I love his attitude, his approach towards life, and his one-liners.
Bipasha is of course paired opposite Rana in the film. Does your character ACP Vishnu Kamath too have a romantic track to him? Yes…There is a romantic track with my gun. That's why the song 'Thayn Thayn'. My co-star in the film is my pistol. Coming to 'Thayn Thayn', it seems to have become a hot favourite. The last time you crooned for Rohan Sippy's Bluffmaster, it went on to become a cult classic song. Was singing 'Thayn Thayn' much easier? Today technology has become so great that I am pretty comfortable singing. Moreover I knew Rohan is there to take care of me and he is not going to allow anything substandard to come out.

The Indian animation industry is to witness yet another mythological animation feature film, with Sunny Deol set to give his voice for Bheem, the angry gadadhari Padav brother in the Mahabharata. Mahabharata is scheduled to release on Diwali clashing with Shah Rukh Khan's Ra.One. Sunny dubbed for Mahabharata after he completed his first schedule of Mohalla 80. Crafted under our in-house studio Pen India, this epic animation feature has a fusion of 2D and 3D elements in it." The producers of the film are trying to rope in well known stars to lend their voices for the film; Jayantilal said, "Right now we are presenting the film to everyone; this film is going to have an ensemble cast unlike any other animation film in India. There's another 6-8 months of intensive animation work that's involved with the lip-sync animation but this is only after dubbing."

One question that Abhishek is constantly being asked is about the bold lyrics of 'Dum Maaro Dum' title track. AB Jr.'s reaction was, "We have 1.20 billion people in India and all can't like the song. But the fact it is topping all radio charts and playing everywhere including night clubs means the youth have connected and loved the track. It's doing extremely well and I am very happy with response." Detractors of the sizzling, hot item song picturised on Deepika Padukone have been proved wrong. It turns out that the song is tracking extremely well with today's generation, especially in the age group of 16-25 years. The research figures, done by Ormax Media, an entertainment research company, reveal that the unaided awareness of the film Dum Maaro Dum, before the song was launched was below 5% and when the song was launched, in Nagpur, the unaided awareness jumped by 240%, to 17% and currently, the unaided awareness rides high at 75%. Even the interest and desirability to watch the film was below 10% before the song's launch, and it has jumped by 170% to 27%, and currently rides on 35%. It definitely proves that the item song has given that extra push to the film, as seems to be the trend nowadays. A sizzling hot Deepika, gyrating to edgy moves and mouthing edgier lyrics only adds to the excitement.

Suniel Shetty's company that's hosting Akon's 3-day trip to India has been thrown into a tizzy. Disregarding the tight minute-by-minute schedule Akon wants to meet his pal Shah Rukh Khan. Not only that. On the rapper's insistence, the venue for Akon's birthday party on the night of 15th April has been shifted from Mumbai to Pune to avoid a bottleneck of guests from Mumbai and Bollywood who would insist on being at the most happening bash this weekend. On his first, concert tour in India Akon has made a very special request to his organizers. He wants to taste the special cuisine in every city that he visits, namely Mumbai, Pune and Delhi. The request that has been conveyed belatedly to the organizers has sent them scurrying into every city's menu-card looking for the food that Akon and his entourage can have without getting a spice-attack. Also, at the last minute, Akon has requested the organizers to give him time to visit Shah Rukh Khan. That one, say Akon's harried hosts, is tougher than arranging the precise city-to-city cuisine, since Akon's schedules from the time he lands at the Mumbai airport on Thursday-Friday 1 am to the time he leaves on Monday, had been worked out into water-tight compartments. Sujit Jain, MD, Netsurf Entertainment who are hosting Akon, admits Akon has asked for time to meet Shah Rukh Khan. "Of course, Akon will meet Shah Rukh. We've worked the meeting into Akon's schedule after he hands over a cheque on Thursday morning to needy children in Mumbai."
After his meeting with Shah Rukh, Akon will head for Pune for his very private birthday bash and an intimate 45-minute concert attended by no more than 1200 people. Says Jain, "That again is a massive problem. As soon as it became known in Pune that Akon would be performing we had requests for tickets that ran into unbelievable numbers. But we can only accommodate 1000-1200 people at the Pune concert." No concert by an international artiste of Akon's stature has ever been held in Pune. In fact, Akon who has come to India earlier has never done public concerts. At the Gurgaon concert on Saturday, two amateur musicians chosen through a contest on Akon's website Hit Lab will open Akon's concert. After the small performance in Pune on Friday night followed by his birthday bash which he has asked to be very small and private, Akon goes for the Gurgaon concert where the organizers want to celebrate his birthday on stage during the performance. There is only one problem. No changes or additions in the Akon's schedule are allowed. Laughs Jain, "No birthday surprises. Otherwise they'll backfire in our faces. We have planned a birthday celebration on stage in Gurgaon. But we've to run it through his people. Every step in his itinerary is inked and monitored. And the slightest change or addition has to be notified." On Sunday May 17, Akon performs in Bangalore and then returns to the US on Monday morning. But not before watching his co-host Suniel Shetty's latest release Thank You. Says a source, "Akon wants to watch at least one film of Suniel. He has heard good things about Suniel in Thank You. Akon's hosts will show him at least portions of the film." But it's the food that's causing the organizers major heartburn. Since Akon and his wife are major foodies, his request to arrange the special food in each town has Suniel Shetty and his partner Sujit Jain running from pillar to post getting the right items from the menu in place. Burp re burp.

'King of Pop' Michael Jackson's three children are "enjoying" going to school for the first time and learning to live without their father.
While Munnis, Sheilas, Razias and Shalus are making waves for all the right reason, it can be rest assured that one won't be seeing the last of the item numbers this season. That's because the latest to hit the dance floor with vengeance is none other than Sonakshi Sinha who would be coming up with some enticing moves of her own in a special song and dance sequence 'Dance Karle English Mein' for Joker. Though it is not a quintessential item song like the aforementioned ones, it is bound to present Sonakshi in a new light altogether, especially after a rather silent call that she took in Dabangg. "'Dance Karle English Mein' is pretty much a part of the film but comes with its own fun flavour. Sonakshi gets into a full-on 'jhatak-matak' mode for this song which is set in a village. Though it is not raunchy by any means, it has in it to reach out to the masses in a big way", informs a senior unit member. There is a story behind the placement of this song in the film. Contrary to misconception amongst a few, Sonakshi is not playing a village belle in the film. In fact she and Akshay Kumar return from abroad to their village and adopt 'desi' mannerisms to mix up with the folks there. This is what leads to a situation where the number crops up. "For Shirish too it was a new setting altogether as his Jaan-E-Mann had an out and out Western classy look where his songs like 'Humko Maaloom Hain' and 'Sau Dard Hai' had an opera look and feel to them. However for Joker, he too is letting his hair down", the source continues. When contacted, the director did acknowledge that 'Dance Karle English Mein' is a special song but refrained from calling it as an item number or being even remotely similar to the genre followed by 'Munni' or 'Sheila'. "Let's look at every song in its own individuality", says Shirish, "This is a special song in the film as it has lyrics in ten languages. We had a ball shooting for it. Also, Sonakshi was a revelation. From being someone coy in Dabangg, it was a welcome change for her too to show a different side of her persona." Well, if this picture is any indication, Sonakshi surely seems to have a lot up her sleeves!
Ajay Devgn and David Dhawan have forgotten the past and with Rascals, it is turning out to be an all new beginning for them. More than a decade back though it was an altogether different scenario with the actor and the director at loggerheads with each other. "Today's generation is not aware about the problems that the duo had during the late 90s", informs a senior industry insider, "Those were the times when Dhawan was the undisputed 'baadshah' of comic cinema with dozen odd hits with Govinda and Salman Khan. On the other hand, Ajay was miles away from comedy with Ishq being a sole exception. Those were the days when he used to do action flicks by dozens. Needless to say, there was no way that the two could have worked together since they excelled in genres that were poles apart." This was not the only reason which separated the duo. There have been legendary tales around how the two just couldn't get along with each other and Ajay had even commented around how he could never be seen in the kind of cinema that Dhawan made. "This is the reason why it was shocking for the industry when Ajay agreed to work with Dhawan in Amitabh Bachchan-Sanjay Dutt-Aishwarya Rai starrer Hum Kisi Se Kam Nahin (2002). No one could see that coming. The two never worked with each other again but Ajay decided to hit the comic route with a vengeance post the release of the film", continues the insider. Though Ajay and Dhawan never worked again for ages, in the new decade the actor found major success coming his way through films like Masti, Golmaal series, All The Best, Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge? and Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji - each of which has been comedies. No wonder this time around when he paired up with his Hum Kisi Se Kam Nahin team of David Dhawan and Sanjay Dutt all over again for Rascals, there weren't many eyebrows raised. "With Ajay I am enjoying a great director-actor relationship", says Dhawan who is happy to have wrapped up a major schedule of Rascals with the actor, "Also, he shares a good camaraderie with Sanju; unka aapas ka taal-mel bahaut achcha hai. I don't know how time just flew while shooting for the film in Bangkok. Sanju as well as Ajay's comic timing are just superb." As Chunkey Pandey would love to say here, hope Dhawan is not joking!!
Before hitting the theatres April 22, Rohan Sippy's Dum Maaro Dum could be screened before the Panaji bench of the Bombay High court.
If Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra is to be believed, 75% of the investment on his production Teen Thay Bhai has already been recovered. Made on a budget of 7.5-8 crores, the film has already recovered 5.5 crores, hence making him hopeful that the film would be in a plus even if there is bare minimum business at the box office. Says Mehta whose last film was a biggie Delhi 6 that hadn't done too well at the box office, "For Teen Thay Bhai, I didn't go for stars and hence could make the film in a limited budget. I remembered my own philosophy of 'refraining from wearing a kaala chashma' that I had propagated in Delhi 6." When asked what exactly did he mean by this, Mehra philosophizes, "Somehow we film makers wear these black glasses from which we end up seeing only big stars. But then there is a world beyond that as well, something I wanted to explore with Teen Thay Bhai. Why to increase costs when you can make your film with good actors who may not necessarily as stars?" Resultantly, actors like Om Puri, Shreyas Talpade and Deepak Dobriyal were roped in which brought the film's budget down. Also, the film wasn't set on a lavish scale and the setting was restricted as well. "That was the idea", says Mehra, "...and it worked for us. Since cost was not an issue, we could sell the film at reasonable rates. Commercially the film is a safe bet for us. We would want it to do bumper business theatrically but even if it does limited business, we are not worried. There is no pressure of release as we are not playing a gamble." Mehra isn't deterred by the fact that immediately after Teen Thay Bhai comes Abhishek Bachchan's biggie Dum Maaro Dum. "Well, Teen Thay Bhai hasn't been made for weekend business. It has a potential to hang on", he says hopefully, "Then there are satellite and home video avenues as well. I am positive about the film reaching out to its audience either through the big or small screen."
