| | | | |  Last week Katrina was dressed as 1960s hippy for a song in Agra. And she had herself a ball. Katrina went seriously berserk with her 1960s look for Yash Raj Films' Mere Brother Ki Dulhan. She has just let herself go with the clothes, hairstyle, accessories, shoes and attitude. A big fan of 1960s rock, especially the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley and the Four Seasons, Katrina diligently picked up the styles of all her rock 'n' roll icons from their music videos from the decade and used them to create her own style. The song was shot in and around Agra .Katrina's look was supposed to be a secret, as much as possible. And that was tough. There are at least 300 gawkers at every location. What tickles Katrina is that she's looking "so retro" in her 60s get-up. Fans who have been crowding her hotel since her arrival in Agra to get a glimpse, pic and autograph with her had been told that she has returned to Mumbai after shooting the much-publicized wedding sequence with Imran at the Taj Mahal. "It's quite funny, really. Because I don't look like I usually do. So yeah people are quite confused about my identity," admits Katrina, breathless with excitement. About recreating the whole 1960s era in her persona Katrina exults, "In my entire career I've never done a retro number or even a retro scene. In fact I've never done a film that's set in the past. Considering I love nostalgia, I am having the time of my life dressing up and feeling like a rock and roll queen from the 1960s." Adding to her sense of fun and enjoyment is the fact that the Mere Brother Ki Dulhan song is not only a retro 1960s song but also a college number. Says Katrina, "It's a hippy style rock track set in a college campus. Very Grease like." One of Katrina's favourite films is the John Travolta-Olivia Newton John starrer Grease and now she's part of that world in the number in Mere Brother Ki Dulhan. Brimming over with excitement from Agra Katrina said, "We're shooting all over Agra, the Red Fort and a highway near the Taj Mahal. So far a lot of people are wondering who the girl is." Katrina seems to be enjoying her brief interlude with anonymity. "I just love being mistaken for someone else." | | | | | |

| | | | |  Some comedies mean well. But they lose their way in their noble intentions. Teen Thay Bhai seems like a terrific idea for a comedy. Three brothers separated more at mirth than by birth, trying hard to keep the spirit alive. They fail miserably, not for the want of trying. The script here depends too much on extraneous trappings, too little on integral assets. There's no scarcity of acting talent here. Shreyas Talpade, Deepak Dobriyal and Om Puri shine in that order…Alas; they have no meat to sink their sharp teeth in. Often we see the actor groping and grappling with material that doesn't give them a chance to move beyond the immediate laughter of a situational comedy. Beyond the sound of current laughter there's no hereafter in the humour. The static snow-capped location doesn't help either. The three principal actors seem as frozen in their efforts to rise above the stagnant humour as the snowy landscape in Jammu where veteran cinematographer Ashok Mehta tries desperately to find a centre in the meandering mirth. The script has the seeds of an engaging satire. But the story never takes off. Minimalist props and background music don't help drive away the feeling of growing boredom that clutches at the throat of this vapid tale of three brothers who could kill each other with sibling friction and kill us with sheer boredom. Towards the end the plot shifts out a snow-strapped cottage into the outdoors where the brothers are assailed by hippy women who feed them with parathas filled with marijuana. By this time the script has completely run out of tricks to hold our attention. A climax with a giant steamroller as the villain is just about all that we are left looking at. Teen Thay Bhai is like one of those books whose backflap synopsis offers us tempting insights into human nature. But by the time we settle down to the experience the plot has betrayed its own interests. Hugely disappointing. | | | | | |
